Launching Ceremony of Deaf Club (YMCA KK)
It was a memorable day for the Deaf Community of Sabah when its long awaited dream of having its own club was launched on 16th April 2006 at the YMCA KK premises at Damai, Kota Kinabalu.
The event was officiated by YB Masidi Manjun, the Minister of Youth and Sports who was represented by his Deputy, YB Jahid Jahim. In his speech he said, the Deaf possess the strength and capabilities despite the circumstances they are in and they have a big task towards the development of many areas including sports and various sectors if only the Deaf are willing to use and share their talents. Citing an example and based on his own experience, the Deaf working at Tanjung Aru KFC has been providing an efficient and courteous service to the customers.
Those present at the Launching were Mr Alex Sham, the President of YMCA KK and also members of the YMCA Asia, Malaysia and Kota Kinabalu Council Members. Mr Liew Mun Khai, Chairperson of the Trustee Majudiri ‘Y' Foundation for the Deaf presented a cheque for RM2,000.00 to the YMCA Deaf Club (YKDC).
YKDC was founded by a group of hearing volunteers working together with the Deaf and is headed by its Chairman, Mr Spancer Soo and assisted by his Deputy, Mr. Andy Chung.
