assistants met together in London, concerned about the Inhuman social
and moral conditions of the industrial revolution
- Sought to meet religious needs of the young men in
the city initially, expanded "to a concern for the religious, social
and intellectual needs"
- Spread rapidly to other cities in England, Europe
(France, Switzerland, Germany), North America, Australia (1850), Pakistan
(1875), Malaysia (1905).
1855 -FIRST WORLD YMCA conference in Paris; adopted the Paris
basis as fundamental principles for the formation of YMCAs
