YMCA KL’s Team of Nine In Singapore!

25th YMCAs Festival of Sports @ Metropolitan YMCA of Singapore

25th YMCAs Festival of Sports (FOS) was held at Metropolitan YMCA of Singapore (MYMCA) from 4th – 6th August 2017. FOS is a twice-yearly event and is opened to all members and staffs of YMCAs of Malaysia and Singapore. 25th FOS at MYMCA was supposed to be held from 3rd – 5th June 2016, however, it was postponed due to MYMCA 70th Anniversary Celebration. This year MYMCA had successfully hosted the event, joined by 3 others YMCAs from YMCA of Singapore, YMCA of Kuala Lumpur and Penang YMCA. MYMCA had the largest contingent about 40 participants, YMCA of Singapore had about 30 participants, Penang YMCA had 22 participants and YMCA of Kuala Lumpur had 9 participants. 


The 25th YMCAs Festival of Sports was officiated by Dr Irwin Seet, Chairman of FOS also the 2nd Vice President of MYMCA. Follow by In-Flag Ceremony by YMCAs and Welcome Dinner by MYMCA. FOS started the first and second game competition, Carom and Scrabble competition that night at Upper Room, MYMCA.


On the following day, FOS kick started with Swimming competition - 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle at MYMCA swimming pool. In the afternoon participants who were participating the Bowling and Badminton competition were transported to Home Team NS (Sports Club) while Table Tennis was held in Upper Room of MYMCA. FOS ended with Futsal Competition in MYMCA after dinner. On the last day, Prize Giving Ceremony was held and winners of the games competition were awarded medals. Closing Ceremony speech was done by Ms Phyllis Tan CEO of MYMCA follow by Passing Flag Ceremony to YMCA of Singapore, Orchard Road by Dr Irwin Seet. Before saying goodbye to the participants, we had a Group Photo and Lunch together.


Initially, there were 8 games to participate by the participants. Unfortunately, Basketball Competition was cancelled due to lack number of team sign-up. Other games like Scrabble, Carom, Table Tennis, Badminton, Swimming, Futsal and Bowling went on smoothly throughout the 3 days event.


YMCA of Kuala Lumpur participates in 4 games and won as follows;





2nd Runner-up – Mr. Nur Raja Azhuri



Best Female Bowler – Ms Betty Lim



Women’s Single Champion            Ms Sammi Le Hoa Sao Minh;

Women’s Single 1st Runner-Up – Ms Lee Wai Kuen;

Women’s Double Champion         Ms Lee Wai Kuen & Ms Sammi Le Hoa Sao Minh;

Men’s Single Champion                   Mr  Henry Wong ;

Men’s Single 2nd Runner-Up         Mr  Chia Chong Heng;

Men’s Double Champion                Mr  George Ong & Mr Chia Chong Heng;

Mix Double Champion                    Mr George Ong & Ms Sammi Le Hoa Sao Minh;

Mix Double 1st Runner Up             Mr Chia Chong Heng & Ms Lee Wai Kuen.

Singapore YMCA will be hosting one of the biggest sports festivals under Asia and Pacific Association of YMCs in 2018. We call out to all our Members, Friends and Volunteers to show your earliest participation and support to our representing Team from The YMCA of Kuala Lumpur!


We hope to promote and foster goodwill and understanding between participating YMCAs’, this coming 26th YMCA FOS will include the participation of YMCA Staff and Members in sporting and physical recreational activities while we together instil the spirit of sportsmanship and competitiveness in the participants from participating YMCAs.
