DESTINED TP BE MAN AND WIFE

KUALA TERENGGANU: They expressed their feelings for each other in sign language on Jan 1, last year. That was the beginning of their “silent” romance.  Exactly a year later, Wan Azizi Nasir, 28, and his sweetheart Kharifah Zaharah Tuan Dalam, 36, tied the knot.
The couple first met when both attended a course for the disabled organised by the Kuala Terengganu Association for the Mute.   Wan Azizi, a general worker of the local council here, was sitting close to Kharifah, a seamstress, and from then on, he knew she would be his future wife.

Joyous occasion: Wan Azizi and Kharifah being cheered by their peers on their wedding day in Kuala Terengganu

Kharifah, speaking through an interpreter, said:

“I like him because he is simple and very caring. He's the type of man I've always wanted for a husband.

“Today is a great occasion as we got married on the second day of Hari Raya Aidiladha and New Year.”

Kharifah has been living a lonely life after her parents died two years ago.

“I was looking for the right partner especially one who shares the same fate as me. I thank God I met Wan Azizi,” she said.

“He has given me new hope and we are now planning to start a family. Hopefully, we'll have a baby soon.”

Wan Azizi is thankful for having a competent partner.

“She is eight years older than me but I don't mind at all. She is also very pious,” Wan Azizi said through an interpreter.

“We hope we will have a normal child, so he would not have to endure the suffering of his parents.”

The association's deputy chairman Ismail Muda said this was the first time a wedding ceremony was held at its premises.
