The World Alliance of YMCAs is a confederation of national councils of YMCAs around the world. The national councils are composed of local associations within their countries.

The World Alliance was established in 1855, at the first international conference of the YMCA held in Paris. As such, it is the oldest voluntary international organisation in the world today and it represents the YMCAs in over 120 countries. There are more than 12,000 local associations with around 30 million members. The world alliance headquarters are located in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Mission of the WORLD ALLIANCE is expressed in its motto "THAT THEY MAY ALL BE ONE" [John 17:21], and the Paris Basis, formulated in 1855, which emphasises two main purposes : "working for 'unity", and for the establishment of the "reign of God" on earth; that is working for a society characterised by justice, and love according to the teaching of Jesus Christ.
